For professionals

Safeguarding support for those who serve older clients

Banks, law firms and community organisations are often first to notice when an older client may be at risk. We’re building support to help them respond well.

A difficult moment to get right

A long-standing client asks to change a will, a power of attorney, or move a large sum, and something doesn’t feel right. The client may be under pressure from someone close to them, or may not fully understand what they’re agreeing to.

Professionals in these situations carry real obligations. They need to recognise the signs, talk with the client in a way that respects their autonomy, and know what to do next.

What we’re developing

Structured advice and support for professional intermediaries, drawing on the same accessible-communication approach as Kōrero Clear.

  • Recognising concerns

Clear prompts to help staff notice when a client may be at risk.

  • Understood consent

Help to confirm that a client genuinely understands a decision, especially where capacity may be reduced.

  • Clear next steps

Structured pathways when something doesn’t feel right, including links to specialist elder abuse services.

Consent only counts when it is genuinely understood.

That principle runs through everything we build, in health care and beyond it.

Help us shape this.

We’d like to hear from banks, law firms and community organisations working with older clients.
